Accessories Review: Bra Strap Cushions
Hope’s Chest carries an extensive line of accessories. Today we are discussing one of the most popular, Bra Strap Cushions. We feature the Sexy ‘n Seconds Comfy Shoulder Bra Magic in our Boutique. There are several reasons for using bra strap cushions, shoulder pain, bra strap slippage or temporary relief post surgery.
Shrug Off Pain with Bra Strap Cushions
Shoulder pain is not part and parcel of wearing a bra. Bras are supposed to lift, support, and shape your breasts, not give you a permanent hunch and aching shoulders.
Some women have particularly sensitive shoulders or pressure points around the bra strap area. Other women find that if they have been wearing bras with clear straps, which can chafe, they need some extra padding for a day or two. Many plus-size women have had a difficult time finding a bra that fits well in both the bust and the shoulders (they haven’t been fitted at Hope’s Chest!) and need the comfort of a pad. Silicone bra strap pads are an answer to the problem of bra slippage. And pads may be needed by women who have undergone a medical procedure anywhere a strap might make contact with the skin.
The idea of bra strap pads is nothing new; corsets from the Elizabethan to Victorian era were often padded at the shoulder to provide comfort, especially for large-breasted women. In the modern era, even expensive, high-quality bras don't necessarily have straps that won't make their presence known at the end of a long day. That's when a bit of padding helps immeasurably.
What They Are and How to Use Them?
Bra straps cushions are ingenious ways of relieving the pressure caused by too narrow bra straps off your shoulders. Made of either foam or silicone, these bra strap cushions make your bra straps wider at the shoulders where straps tend to dig the most. They are also soft so that’s a touch of added comfort.
Think of bra strap cushions as pieces of thin silicone or foam with two folded flaps. To use, simply insert your bra strap inside the flap. The silicone material will warm up to your body temperature to make the bra strap cushions stay in place.
Silicone is very popular as of late because it is so strong, flexible, temperature resistant and, especially, hypoallergenic. That's not to say that it works well for everyone. Some users of silicone pads report that the pad can irritate the skin and so they have to use baby powder to prevent chafing.
Overall, however, silicone pads are excellent at preventing slippage while also alleviating any pressure. They are so thin and clear, they can be worn under anything. And they are easy to care for, they can be washed by hand in the sink with a bit of soap.
